a {little more} about me

I’m married to an ICU nurse whom I affectionately call Murse.

I have two little nerdy boys who love to be tickled, love to snuggle, love to read, love math. Ask them any facts about sports, and they probably know it. Ask my youngest any geography fact, and he will rattle it off without hesitation. Ask my oldest to build you something awesome with Legos, and he certainly will.

I have an alter ego. Her name is OCDiva and she plays roller derby for Muncie’s Cornfed Derby Dames. She takes a lot of beatings, but she gives a few as well — but mainly she gives hugs.

Three hens reside in my backyard: Skittles, Furball and Bossy Pants. It’s a strange love.

Murse and I purchased a 1978 vintage Airstream to tear apart and rebuild to awesomeness. Adventures await!

And a huge part of me is ridiculously passionate about documenting life. I have an educational background in journalism and design, which has given me the great opportunity of documenting life as I see it. Photography adds an even greater depth to that love. When I’m behind the lens, life slows down, details become clearer, memories stick.
It centers me. It keeps me grounded. No wonder it’s what I love to do.

Not only for myself, but for you too!

I look forward to being inspired by your life in the near future!

{sweetness + light}

The phrase “sweetness and light” is very special to me.

I lost my mama to breast cancer in April 2005. It all seemed to happen so fast, and before I was even able to catch up, she was gone. Thankfully, before the diagnosis, she spent 2 wonderful years getting to know my oldest son, Tommy. She would often say right from the beginning with a soft smile, “He’s sweetness and light … sweetness and light.” I can almost here it being whispered sweetly in my ear right now; and I know she would say the same about my youngest Louie. She was my biggest fan with every adventure I pursued. I wish she were here to tell me in person that what she sees in my photographs is sweetness and light. But until that day, it will be part of my business name to remind me of her own sweetness and light and be encouraged by her words.
