First off, let’s just get the little matter of my business name out of the way. By marriage I’ve inherited the last name Rohlfing (pronounced Roll-fing). It’s a wonderful last name, but with so many consonants in a row it often gets mispronounced. And with mispronounced names come nicknames. Mark, my husband, got the nickname MarkeyRo in college. We often call my oldest, TommyRo or t.ro, and in utero he was called Ro-Ro. So with all that being said, when it was time to start my own business, j.ro just seemed natural. And, let’s be honest, we all know j.Lo, so why not hope for a little of her success to come my way!
a {little} about me
Besides being a wife to my super hero and a super hero to our two cutie boys, I am passionate about making and saving memories. My photographs are inspired by life: the details, the personality, the emotion of a given moment in time, the inner beauty we all possess.
I have an educational background in journalism and design, which has given me the great opportunity of documenting life as I see it. My love for photography has brought an even greater depth to communicating a love for life and a desire to capture its true nature. Combining photographs to my writings and designs has created a beautiful way for me to communicate life visually.
Because of this I have a desire to capture memories and make them beautiful not only for myself, but for you too. I just can’t get enough of it, and I look forward to being inspired by your life in the near future!
{sweetness + light}
The phrase “sweetness and light” is very special to me, and I am so thankful that I am able to use it as part of my company name.
I lost my mama to breast cancer in April 2005. It all seemed to happen so fast, and before I was even able to catch up, she was gone. Thankfully, before the diagnosis, she spent 2 1/2 wonderful years getting to know my oldest son, Tommy. She would often say right from the beginning with a soft smile, “He’s sweetness and light … sweetness and light.” I can almost here it being whispered sweetly in my ear right now, and I know she would say the same about my youngest Louie. She was my biggest fan with every adventure I pursued. I wish she were here to tell me in person that what she sees in my photographs is sweetness and light. But until that day, I’ll keep my tagline to remind me of her own sweetness and light and be encouraged by her words.
